In October 2021, the SGS UK Crop Science team moved to a new central site in Warwickshire, providing easier access to the rest of the country.
This new location ensures that the team is well placed to work on a wide range of crops and undertake biostimulant and seed care trials, as well as traditional contract trial work.
The new location
Our new location provides easy access to cereal, horticultural and ornamental crops grown for commercial purposes, and our network of contacts allows us to find specific disease, weed and pest targets to ensure our customers get the data needed for product development. The facility itself has a variety of modern drilling, spraying and harvesting machinery as well as ample storage capacity for other equipment. Additionally, it is located close to the Warwick Crop Center in Wellesbourne, the innovation campus of the University of Warwick. SGS has a long history of collaboration with this campus, and access to its extensive facilities could be granted for specific projects, thereby broadening the scope of SGS’s services.
What the new facility offers
SGS’s new location in Warwickshire offers a full range of services for all organizations involved in crop science.
In addition to offering basic selectivity, efficacy and residue testing for plant protection products under the GHP and GLP disciplines, the site will focus in the coming season on biostimulant and care testing. seeds. Drilling-related services are also offered nationwide as usual. Site personnel combine significant experience in conducting biostimulant and biocontrol product trials with an innovation-focused mindset. For example, over the past few years, SGS has used drones and new sensors for additional and exploratory data collection, demonstrating the team’s willingness to experiment with innovative approaches and tools.
The site is integrated into SGS’s global field testing network. It conducts studies in accordance with GLP and its program management and analytical laboratory services in the areas of residue testing, ecotoxicology and product chemistry are GLP compliant. The UK facility is supported by the Crop Science seed laboratory in Driffield, which is able to undertake accelerated seed testing locally and internationally to support individuals, organizations or pan-European projects.
